Abitalia South Coast’s interior design team are committed to excellence in design and being at the forefront of innovative interiors. As part of this commitment, one of our in-house interior designers travelled to Gessi – a luxury tap and bathroom wellness brand – in Milan Italy.
The two-day trip was an opportunity to visit not only Gessi’s extraordinary bathroom showroom but also their head offices and awe-inspiring factory. Each location was an opportunity for Gessi to showcase their admirable bathroom tap and shower designs allowing each participant to observe and experience a lifestyle perspective of the most luxurious spaces and bathroom wellness.
Upon arrival in Milan, the group of nine bathroom designers were whisked off in the Gessi mini-bus to the factory. Throughout the visit the party gained an insight into Gessi’s ethos and company values. Their remarkable factory is dedicated to researching how they can improve on all their bathroom and kitchen designs.
To illustrate Gessi’s expertise, Gessi weld their taps together internally to safeguard a seamless end-result, then subsequently finish the luxury product with one of the numerous finishes available such as chrome, brushed steel and gun metal to name a few. Seeing the production process first hand gave the group an idea of Gessi’s precision and dedication of their handmade bathroom products.
Next on the tour was the meticulous production of their showerheads ensuring that every water hole is coordinated in size to maintain its performance to an optimum level. Every showerhead is scrutinised by hand to ensure a flawless finish. Following this, the group were then elevated to the storage department where enormous storage units were filled with materials, crucial parts and spare components. To find specified items for production, Gessi has installed an itemised mechanism that detects the exact element required and delivers it directly to the correct production line.
Moving on from the factory, the team were then transferred to the head office where every space was an extraordinary environmental experience mixed with a conscious awareness of innovative creativity and harmony. When entering the building they were greeted by a row of ten-foot Minimali Quadro showers that hung externally from the ceiling, showering down to a giant tray below with water and a display of soft neon lighting. Even the staff bathrooms within the building have been installed with the Goccia collection that illustrated the aesthetic delights of their bright platinum finish. On the outskirts of the staff canteen was an inspiring showroom segment that demonstrated additional Gessi bathroom collections such as the delectable Eleganza, Equilibrioand Rectangolo K. On the edge of the showroom area they had their kitchen taps on display with collections such as Ciotole, Ispa, Mimi and Gessi316.
To conclude the day, the group were driven to Hotel Relais Santo Steffano in the Pedmont area of Milan. As well as staying at the luxury hotel, they were given a tour of the penthouse bathroom suites that had each been installed with a complete Gessi suite, with each one displaying a different collection. The premise of this offers clients an opportunity to experience their selected suite to see how it would work for their lifestyle in their homes. The Hotel Spa is complete with Gessi’s walk-in showers and luxury Gessi baths making it feel opulent and desirable.
On the second day, the team moved onto the showroom in Valsesia. The Gessi showroom was previously a movie theatre, but after its extensive re-development, the exclusive environment now stands as a superb multilevel space filled with their luxury materials, furnishings and unique objects. On a much larger scale, the showroom emulated the deluxe atmosphere of the showroom at their headquarters. An abundance of large flush showers from the Riflessi E Trasparenenze, Goccia and Inciso collection greeted them upon entering the building. Full bathroom displays of the “Secret Garden” and “Concept Lab” settings waited in anticipation to be seen as well as cascading waterfalls from taps falling into beautifully lit botanical pools.
There is no substitute for seeing the products we work with first hand. We appreciate that the nature of many of the bespoke products Abitalia works with cannot be experienced until installation. Therefore the confidence the client has in us as a design studio is strengthened when each of our designers can talk from real life experience and recommendations. We invest greatly in our staff training by factory visits and trade shows such as Salone del Mobile in Milan.
