Vibia: the Palma collection by Antoni Arola
Vibia have recently teamed up with endeared designer Antoni Arola to create their new Palma Collection. The collection promotes an indoor plant setting, normally associated with the daylight of outside. The sphere-shaped lamps are slightly flattened like the shape of the earth to give a warm and adjustable light. The Palma collection has been configured to constitute vertical and horizontal visions in groups, partners and individuals in either a Matt White Lacquer or Matt Graphite Lacquer finish to suit personal taste. Widely acknowledged is the creation of the innovative multiple Wall Sconce Lamps that are to be admired in public spaces.
Antoni Arola began his career in 1984. Following his studies at the Escuela Superior de Diseño Eina in Barcelona, he started working at Studio Lievore y Pensi before moving on to Associate Designers in 1990. Four years later, he established his own design practice called Studio Arola located on the south of Barcelona and has since worked in a variety of fields, including furniture, interior architecture and, of course, lighting design. Over the years he has produced light pieces for the likes of Viabizzuno, MetalArte and most notably Santa & Cole, the Barcelona-based ‘editors’ of design who, in 1997, helped bring Arola’s first lighting piece, the Nimba, to completion. Light, Arola says, is the most interesting of materials to work with. Its ubiquitous role as the provider of life, and the very means by which we engage with visual design itself, makes it wondrous. The physical materials used in the creation of a lamp are allies with which to tame the light, not to dominate it, but to domesticate it.

"A lamp has to be something in its own right, like a person. And when a design is like this it can go in a neoclassical or extremely modern setting, or indeed anywhere; it always endures!" Antoni Arola - Barcelona, November 2013.
